A trainers’ ideal customer should be “individuals looking to lose or gain weight, muscle and live a healthier lifestyle while seeking expert help on how to do so.”
Your product or service matches and directly meets their need.
And they’ll be more likely to work with you if you can provide a direct solution to their need or problem. Plus, when you do they’ll be committed to not only changing their lifestyle. But committed to your product or service as well.
So as a local business or individual trying to get more customers, you should try and get as specific as possible.
Find out who your ideal customers are. Then market your solution, service, or business online to those customers.
2. Have the Correct Pricing for Your Product or Service
Pricing’s a big deal.
You can talk about the value of your product or service all you want. But if the price isn’t right, it will turn your ideal customers away.
Regardless, most businesses price way too low.
Many believe lower prices will make it easier to make more sales. But this is one of the main reason many startups and local business fail and go out of business.
No marketing tips can save and grow your business if you’re underpricing your products and services.
If your prices are too cheap you’re sending a message to those that might be trying to decide if they want to do business with you.
You’re telling customers, your product or service is low quality and likely won’t last very long.
Because even if you have a good, high-quality product, the fact that you priced it so low tells customers and those searching for you it’s not.
They’ll be less likely to buy because of your low prices.
Let’s take the personal trainer for example again.
If you priced your training sessions at $40 per month, that’s too low. You’re less likely to have people sign up for training with you because they’re not going to be committed at that price to your program.
And by pricing your services at $40 per month you’re telling potential customers you don’t believe your training sessions are worth more that $40.
C’mon you can do better than $40.
When your prices are this low, people are not as likely to sign up or they’ll undervalue your time and training sessions.
Your clients aren’t committed. And because of this they won’t get the results they’re looking for.
And will be less likely to sign up for any future sessions with you. Leading to a drop in sales and business.
But with the correct pricing, you can show the value of what your service or products are worth.
As a personal trainer who helps clients achieve their goals by hiring you and following your program, you can and should be charging at least $200 a month.
And when you do, you’ll likely get more clients that’re actually committed to the program, get results, and recommend referrals.
Deciding on what to price your products or services is not easy. There are many different ways to go about it.
And the easiest way I’ve found to work out the pricing for your product or service is data.
Do some research online or ask around.
What does the data from the industry your business is in show and tell you? Once you research and analyze the data, pricing gets easier.
Your revenue should always be greater than all of your business expenses.
When pricing any product I sell I try and make sure the profits are generally higher than 50% of my expenses.
3. Promote What Makes You Different
As a business owner there will and should be competitors in your industry.
Even so, you should want the customers coming to you. Which is why you need to work out what makes your company unique from your competitors.
- Why should I do business with you versus your competitors?
- What sets you apart?
- Why do customers prefer doing business with you?
When you answer these questions make that a part of your online marketing message.
But know this, when you figure out what makes you different, it should also be something that your customers would consider valuable.
Marketing tip – there are many different ways to add value and make people feel appreciated.
Some examples could be you customizing your product or services for your customers. Or it could be your killer customer service when customers or clients reach out.

Market and shout it out. Make it easy for people to know why they should do business with you.
You should even put it on the homepage of your business website so it’s the first thing people see.
4. Evaluate Your Website and Content
When marketing online, the content on your website matters.
If you’re a business owner and you produce content, customers will find you easier online because of it.
However, many local business owners lack content.
Or they don’t have the right amount of content on their websites.
Most business owners believe just having a physical location and a couple posts online is enough. But that is not the case.
As a business owner you can and should always be doing more.
When customers search online they should have no problem finding you, your products and services.
And when they do, having enough content that shows you are an authority in your industry helps convert potential customers.
It’ll also result in a higher ranking in the search engines like Google and Bing.

While you don’t have to write a new blog post once a day or even once a week. As a local business your resources and time is very valuable. But a monthly blog post filled with even an update can go a long way.
